Suranaree Student Chapter

Suranaree student chapter has been founded for almost 5 years. Our school of Geotechnology (Petroleum engineering and Geological engineering) accepts around 120 new students each year. Our students have participated in many activities – both SPE activities and those that we have arranged to encourage their role in the petroleum engineering field and geological engineering field. For example, the monthly meetings, E&P award, SPE conferences, competitions and field trips.

2012 SPE Open House & New Member Registration

To introduce the SPE Thailand section to old and new members

To explain any SPE student chapter’s activities that will be occurred in each semester

Project Objective :

To share experience between alumni and junior students

To advice the work description in Oil&Gas industry

To explain about how to prepare the job application

To understand and improve knowledge teaching by senior students

2012 SPE English course

Recently, most of the international and operating companies in Thailand have set high score of TOEIC as a standard for recruitment and promotion. This standard is also applicable in the service companies.
School of Geotechnology, Institute of Engineering, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has kept an eye on this situation and realized that our students need to improve their skills in English for daily and workplace communication, reading and writing. By the way, in this academic year we have 2 courses (15-25 students in each course) that support from SPE as follow:

2012 PetroBowl Competition

PetroBowl Competition 2012 will be held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia(UTM), Skudai, Johor, Malaysia on 7th -8th November 2012. It is a yearly competition matches three-person teams from participating universities under SPE Student Chapter against each other to answer questions ranging from the fundamentals of petroleum engineering to the history and current events of the oil and gas industry. SPE Field Trip #3

The knowledge in petroleum engineering for students will be experience by the field trip. The students will see and learn about petroleum facilities, cementing and well workover. This trip we go to

2011 SPE Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE)
APOGCE (2011 SPE Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition) is an event organized by SPE Asia Pacific. It is a student presentation/paper contest at the Jakarta Convention Centre, Jakarta, Indonesia on 20-22 September 2011.

2011 PetroBowl Competition
PetroBowl Competition 2011 will be established on 21st September 2011 in Jakarta, Jakarta convention centre. It is a yearly competition matches three-person teams from participating universities under SPE Student Chapter against each other to answer questions ranging from the fundamentals of petroleum engineering to the history and current events of the oil and gas industry. 2011 English course
In 2015, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will have a lot of influence for students. The ASEAN’s language is English, so we must to improve our students to be good at English. By the way, in this academic year we have 2 courses (15-25 students in each course) that support from SPE as follow:

SPE Excursion at Mitra Exploration well – Thawi Watthana site
March 19th, 2012 The TX-1X exploratory well is located in Block L45/50 onshore Thailand in the Metropolitan Authority of Bangkok (BMA). The well is planned to be drilling directionally within the target radius to around 2,500 m MD. The object is to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the East Wat Sala Daeng (EWSD) prospect, including a full set of geological samples and log coverage in the 12-1/4” and 8-1/2” sections. This site is no incidents and no adverse environmental impact. This excursion we learned about:

SPE Field trip #2

2-day trip arranged for all students (Total 80 participations) to spend time together and get familiar with each other through several activities. And also we invite alumni in class of 2009, 2010, and 2011 to join the event to know more about the newcomers.
This trip we go to 1.Hess (Thailand) Ltd., Khonkaen, 2.ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Khorat Incorporation, Khonkaen and 3.Sirindhorn Museum and Phu Kum Khao Dinosaur Excavation Site, Kalasin. This trip we learn a lot about gas production operation facilities, onshore natural gas processing, gas separator and transportation, history of earth, sedimentology and paleontology

SPE Student Chapter Explore Race Charity Fund
An explore race that will be joined by the student chapter where they will sent a representative in a group. There will be several checkpoints for them and certain task given before proceeds to the next checkpoint. The prizes obtained in cash money are channeled to selected orphan house or any charity house. This event is held to strengthen the bond between the student chapter and also having fun and at the same time doing a charity.

Technical Talk by Oil and Gas Company
There will be eight slot of technical talk where the topic will be from different aspects in Oil and Gas Industry which include from drilling, completion, production, reservoir description and other major technical discipline.

Conference with the Oil and Gas Industry
A sharing session by the oil and gas company’s representatives based on the theme Beyond Boundaries: Empowering Technology for Exploration and Production Revolution.

2011 Southeast Asia SPE Student Chapter Conference (SASC)

The barriers to the development (Academy/Member/Networks) for each Southeast Asia SPE Student Chapters
In this session, all the representatives from each Student Chapter will gather at Senat Meeting Room to discuss the topic as above. There will be a moderator to raise the problems/barriers are most concerned for the Student Chapters in a list which is concluded from the feedbacks of the question in the registration form. As the list with 10 major barriers/problems mentioned by the SCs shown on the screen, the representatives are free to talk regarding to the topic. Since it’s impossible for every Student Chapter to face the same problem, so there will be some SCs have experience to deal with some of the problems in the list. So together we may conclude several plans/actions to cope the problems. At the same time, SPE Asia Pacific’s officers will sit aside and leave their comments as well.

2011 The International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC)

The International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) is an international oil & gas conference and exhibition. The event rotates between various venues in the Eastern Hemisphere. The scope of the conference programme and associated industry activities will address technology and relevant industry issues that challenge industry specialists and management around the world.
The IPTC is a collaborative effort among the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG); the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE); the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG); and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). The synergy of these four, leading, individual-member driven societies provides the most comprehensive opportunity to form multi‑disciplinary committees and an outstanding technical programme.
In this conference on 7th-9th February, 2012, we have more than 50+ students from Suranaree Student Chapter to participate this conference.
