The student chapter at Chulalongkorn University has been founded for almost 30 years. Our petroleum engineering department accepts around 20 new students each year. Our students have participated in many activities – both SPE, SEAPEX activities and those that we have arranged to encourage their role in the petroleum engineering field. For example, the monthly meetings, paper contests, field trips, and experience sharing events by our alumni.
Orientation & Experience Sharing An orientation and presentation to welcome new members of PE family, share internship experience of junior students, activities of senior students. Newcomers also share perspective about PE and why they join PE family.
SPE Road Show, 17th -18th July 2014 Representatives from student chapter went to Prince of Songkla University to promote benefits of opening a student chapter and representative students also have an opportunity to visit Weatherford facilities.
SPE Regional Qualifier Petrobowl, March 2014 an Asia Pacific Region qualifier round held in Malaysia for ATCE 2014 Petrobowl Championship which will be held in Netherland during October 2014. Chulalongkorn Universiry team won second place and earn a seat in the Championship tournament.
Switch Energy Project documentary screening a documentary describing the energy demand and supply in the world. Our student chapter organize a screening of this documentary to any interested science and engineering student to have good understanding in the energy business.
Learning English Course Students learned special English Course at Inlingua to make students more fluent for English conversation in real life.
IPTC, Jan 2014 or International Petroleum Technology Conference at Qatar National Conventional Center, Doha, Qatar. Chulalongkorn Student Chapter participated in 2014 IPTC International Education Week. 118 participants from over 30 countries are separated into 10 groups to study and present technical and non-technical petroleum project.
Ms. Thamonwan Kongsirinurak who was assigned in group 8A came in 1st place on the topic ``Unconventional Natural Gas`` and 1st runner-up in fast-paced quiz competition, ``Energy Bee Competition``.
Ms. Suampa Ketpreechasawat who was assigned in group 6 with the topic ``Technology Watch/Knowledge Sharing in a Competitive World`` came in 2nd runner-up in ``Energy Bee Competition``.
APOGCE, Oct 2013 or Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition themed “Maximising the Mature, Elevating the Young”, scheduled 22-24 October 2013 at Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, Indonesia. Chulalongkorn University students who were supported by SPE Thailand Section participated in APOGCE SPE Asia Pacific Regional Student Paper Contest and APOGCE Petrobowl Contest. ATCE, Oct 2013 or SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition was held on 30th September – 2nd October 2013 at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. There has a student paper contest and petrobowl. Chulalongkorn University team earned No. 7 seed out of 36 qualifying teams in competition. Chulalongkorn went through the second round before losing to the 2nd runner-up team,Texas A&M. Chulalongkorn University Team members are as follows;

IPTC, March 2013 or International Petroleum Technology Conference, held 26-28 March 2013 at Beijing, China. Chulalongkorn Student Chapter participated in the 6th IPTC International Education Week with 102 undergraduate students in Science, Geoscience and Engineering from 76 institutions in 36 countries around the world. The objective of Education Week is to give the students a clear insight into the petroleum industry, to work together on a joint technical project and to provide opportunities for students to form new friendships and extend their network. The students were divided into 10 teams and assigned a variety of challenging projects.
Mr. Somratchart Maneewong from 4th year of Petroleum Department came in 1st place on topic ``Carbondioxide Injection``
Mr. Kongphop Wongpattananukul from 4th year of Petroleum Department came in 2nd place on topic ``Ultra heavy oil``
PE Trip Special Trip for ice-breaking between new members, junior student and senior student. We also invited alumni to give advices for new members and share work life experience.
Teacher’s Day A day of remembrance, students will express their gratitude to the instructor. Alumni will come back to greet their instructor as well.
The PetroBowl XI Competition was held on 8th October 2012 at the Henry B.Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, Texas, USA in according with the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE).
For the result, unfortunately, Chulalongkorn failed in the first round losing to Montana tech, which won a 4th place, with the score of 30-50 in tie-break. At first, we took a lead with a score of 30-0 and then we failed to answer the most upcoming question because we were having a problem about trying to understand the questions after the opponent answered wrong, the referee did not read the whole question again. As a result, after the time running out, the score was 30-30 then we lost in tie-break.

2011 SPE Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE)APOGCE (2011 SPE Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition) is an event organized by SPE Asia Pacific. It is a student presentation/paper contest at the Jakarta Convention Centre, Jakarta, Indonesia on 20-22 September 2011.
Monthep Parimontonsakul, 4th year student in Petroleum Department, is the 2nd place winner in the student paper contest (undergraduate division).
2011 PetroBowl PetroBowl Competition 2011 will be established on 21 September in Jakarta, Trisakti University. It is a yearly competition matches three-person teams from participating universities under SPE Student Chapter against each other to answer questions ranging from the fundamentals of petroleum engineering to the history and current events of the oil and gas industry. There are 2 teams from Chulalongkorn.

Experience Sharing, 15th Jul 2010
The experience sharing event was intended to introduce to students the real working life. The speakers included personnel from various oil & gas industry-related organizations.

There were altogether 34 participants, 14 2nd year students, 7 3rd year students, and 13 4th year students. Throughout 2 hours of the experience sharing session, speakers talked about life in their organizations. At the beginning of the event, they gave information about their work and explained their tasks and working environments. This was to give a brief image of their job positions and companies they work for. After that the speakers shared their experiences on topics based on audiences’ questions.
The topics mostly focused on more in depth details of the speakers’ work. Topics included the prominent points of each position, working and living overseas, role of women in the oilfield, the difference of working life and student life, the culture and tradition of each organization, scholarship and further study opportunities, and the characteristics required for each job position. The event was carried in a cozy atmosphere. More like an easy-going evening talk rather than a formal speaker-and-audience event.
This event can be beneficial to 2nd and 3rd year students who are seeking an internship opportunity, and 4th year students looking for a job. They will have a clearer view of each organization and the information gained can help on making decisions.

Petroleum Engineering Field Trip, 19th to 22nd January 2011
Petroleum engineering field trip was scheduled on 19th to 22nd January 2011. There were altogether 50 people joining the trip—among which were 23 sophomores, 22 juniors, and 2 graduate students. Visited places included Schlumberger Phitsanulok Base, Sirikit Oil Field, and Fang Oil Field.
Petroleum Engineering Orientation, 22nd Feb 2011
Petroleum engineering orientation event was held on 22nd February 2011. The event contained a presentation, which gave information about our department, and an exhibition.
Firstly, the presenter introduced the Department of Petroleum Engineering to attending students. The introduction was about the role of petroleum engineers in oil and gas industry, our curriculum and core courses, such as geology, reservoir engineering, drilling engineering, and production engineering, in details. And also different types of tasks that petroleum engineers have to take.
At the end of the event, attendees had a chance to look around the exhibition area. The exhibition shows general information of petroleum industry. From the origin of hydrocarbons to the production processes which include drilling and completion operations, production operations, safety practice, and new innovation related to the industry. Everything was printed on 10 exhibition boards and the boards were placed around the room.
